1) Flexibility & Convenience. Attend your meetings from anywhere with a stable internet connection and a device with video conferencing capabilities. Zoom meetings are practical; they eliminate the need to take off a day from work, and reduce the logistical nightmare of needing to match your calendar with your ex-partner, which is especially critical for busy/working parents.
2) No-Contact Environment. Zoom meetings are especially helpful for high conflict situations and for parents who are experiencing intense emotional distress surrounding the divorce process because it reduces the likelihood of intimidation, aggression, or other potentially volatile interactions. Participating in mediation from the safety and comfort of your own space is a preferable alternative that helps you feel calmer, in control, and more rational during the decision-making process.
3) Improved Communication & Engagement. Zoom mediation allows us to use tools and features that facilitate better communication between the parties that in-person mediation cannot provide. For example, use of screen-sharing, private chat functions, and break-out rooms. In moments of high emotion or if either party or I request it, we can easily stop the meeting and move to a 1:1 caucus, allowing each individual person to have time with me to discuss a topic privately.
A parenting plan mediator specializes in helping separated or divorced parents create a collaborative, child-focused plan for co-parenting. Through structured conversations and expert guidance, a mediator facilitates open communication, resolves conflicts, and ensures that both parents’ voices are heard. The goal is to create a clear, workable parenting plan that prioritizes the well-being of the children while addressing the unique needs and concerns of the family.
In addition to being a Certified Parenting Plan Mediator, Talia is an experienced and award-winning psychotherapist for kids, families, parents, and couples for 15+ years. During mediation, Talia is not acting as your therapist, but you will get the benefits of her expert knowledge base in child development, enabling you to make better-informed decisions for your children based on their age and stage of development.
Virtual mediation is $375 per hour. Standard mediation meetings are 2 hours long. A retainer of $500 is required to cover out-of-session client contact, reading emails, studying documents etc. Most clients prefer to do a “fee share,” which will be arranged by Talia at the time services are confirmed.
There’s no specific number. It can take as few as 2-3 meetings or 10+ depending on how well each party engages in compromise and utilizing the meeting time productively.
At your request, Talia will prepare a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines all the decisions that were made during mediation for your review and signature. This is not a legally binding document, yet. If you desire a legally binding agreement, both parties must agree to submit the Memorandum of Understanding to an attorney of their choice. The attorney will incorporate the terms of the Memorandum to make the agreement legally complete. Details about those steps should be directed to your attorney.
